Activity Overview: Number Recognition and Beginning Addition/Subtraction Skills
Activity Objectives: Place a 6x6 grid number line on the floor. Students program Bee-Bot to move to a named number. Teacher calls out a specific forward or backward movement (2 numbers forward or 3 numbers backward) and students program Bee-Bot to move to the new number. This will help students with number recognition as well as beginning adding/subtraction skills.
Concepts Addressed: Number recognition, beginning addition/subtraction
Extensions/Adaptations: This activity can also be used for counting in sequence for beginning learners, counting backwards from a given number, skip counting, etc.

TESTING FOR NUMBER LINE - Diane Faber
I tried using just the number recognition for my IR students (these students have had trouble learning to programming our BEE-BOT) I was very pleased with the way this activity helped them work on their programming skill and their number recognition. Using the straight line worked much better for them, they were having an impossible time turning corners.
I then tried the adding and subtracting with my whole class. this fits right in with our EVERDAY MATH. The nice thing about having 5 BEE-BOTS was that I could have 5 groups doing the same thing. I found the number line easy to make and beneficial,
I was able to purchase the Software and mats from the company and used their NUMBER LINE and play the game on the computer. This could be an extension for your activity.
I found your lesson easy to follow.
